A shared understanding of the network
Bring assets, connections and operating states into a consistent model. Give GIS specialists, data managers and operations teams a clearer picture of the same network.
OPEN-SOURCE NETWORK INTELLIGENCE
Plexopus helps utilities and GIS teams model, validate and explore service networks. Understand how assets connect, spot inconsistent data and make sense of the network behind the map.
In active developmentInitial focus: water networks
01 / WHY PLEXOPUS
Knowing where a pipe or a valve is located is only part of the picture. Teams also need to know what connects to what, which relationships are valid, and how operating conditions change the paths through a network.
Bring assets, connections and operating states into a consistent model. Give GIS specialists, data managers and operations teams a clearer picture of the same network.
Identify connections that break your rules and inconsistencies in asset data. Turn scattered checks into a clearer understanding of network quality.
Develop network intelligence around an open GIS ecosystem. Keep control of your data and choose a deployment that fits your organisation.
02 / WHAT YOU CAN DO
Plexopus brings together the fundamentals of utility network management. These capabilities form the current development baseline.
Describe asset types, their properties and the ways they can connect. Organise a network around the rules of your service.
Find assets reachable from a starting point. Follow connections while accounting for operating states, such as an open or closed valve.
Check network connections and asset information against your model. Find issues that need attention before they undermine analysis.
Bring supported utility network datasets into Plexopus, including a conversion path for Esri Utility Network data.
CONNECTIONS IN PRACTICE
A line on a map does not tell the whole story. An operating state can change which assets are reachable. Try closing the valve to see the idea in action.
Simplified illustration of connectivity, not a hydraulic simulation or a product screenshot.
The connection is open. The trace can reach the service area.
WHO IT IS FOR
Build a clearer view of infrastructure and its connections to support day-to-day network understanding.
Move from mapped features to a coherent network, with explicit connections and quality checks.
Explore an open approach to infrastructure information while retaining control over tools and deployment.
03 / AN OPEN ECOSYSTEM
Plexopus is designed to work with different open-source GIS tools, including QGIS and GeoServer. Compatibility is a project direction; dedicated integrations are being developed progressively.
QGIS integration and GIS publishing are part of the roadmap.
Designed for cloud environments, so deployment can follow your organisation’s needs.
Install Plexopus within your own infrastructure when local control and internal hosting are required.
Plexopus is developed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. Its direction centres on openness, interoperability and control of your network information.
MPL-2.0A FOUNDATION FOR UTILITY NETWORKS
The current focus is water networks. The longer-term vision extends to other utilities, with dedicated capabilities developed progressively.
04 / THE ROAD AHEAD
An overview of the project’s direction. Future stages are indicative and carry no delivery dates or commitments.
Current development
Asset modelling, connectivity, rule-based validation and connected tracing, with a first focus on water networks.
Next priorities
Access control, more controlled updates and continued work on reliability and usability.
Future direction
Richer network analysis, closer GIS integration, collaborative workflows and additional utility profiles.
